EdCity's 25th Anniversary Ushers in a New Chapter: Cross-Sector Collaboration for the First Digital Education Week

Strategic Partnerships Seal Multiple Deals to Drive Tech-Enabled Learning and Empower the Next Generation

Hong Kong Education City (EdCity) has been a trusted partner in education for a quarter of a century. On 14 March 2025, EdCity kicked off its 25th-anniversary celebrations with a launching ceremony, attended by Dr Choi Yuk Lin, JP, Secretary for Education, HKSAR Government. Joining her were Mr Lee Hon Cheung, Chairman of the EdCity Board; Dr Tenny Lam Fung, Executive Director of EdCity; Olympic gold medalist Ms Vivian Kong Man Wai, MH; and leaders from the education and innovation sectors, all gathered to witness EdCity’s vision and roadmap for the future.

Dr Choi Yuk Lin, the Secretary for Education, stated that EdCity has been a key collaborative partner of the Education Bureau, praising its ongoing dedication to supporting the government’s education policies and providing diverse resources for teaching and learning. The EDB will partner with EdCity to organise the Digital Education Week this July, featuring events such as the Learning & Teaching Expo and the International Summit on the Use of AI in Learning and Teaching Languages and Other Subjects, promoting professional exchange between educators and industry leaders.

In his speech, Mr Armstrong Lee, Chairman of the Board of Directors, EdCity stated, ‘The year 2025 marks an important milestone: the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Hong Kong Education City. Under the theme A Quarter Century Together: Embracing Technologies in Education to Create New Opportunities, we will enhance collaboration with educational institutions and partners from various sectors, leveraging technology to drive innovation in education and continuously enhance learning and teaching effectiveness. Moving forward, we will continue to serve as a ‘super connector’, connecting the government, innovation and technology sectors, educational institutions, and research organisations to proactively develop an AI Education Ecosystem, deepen collaboration between education and innovation communities, and cultivate a new generation equipped with national awareness, a sense of responsibility, and an international perspective.’ 

Dr Choi Yuk Lin, Secretary for Education, was the guest of honor at the event. She commended EdCity as a key collaborator of the Education Bureau, highlighting its unwavering support for the HKSAR government’s education policies and its role in delivering diverse learning and teaching resources over the years.

The ceremony saw the attendance of numerous leaders from the education and innovation and technology sectors, marking a significant milestone for EdCity. 

 To celebrate the occasion, guests received special 25th-anniversary souvenirs featuring EdCity’s mascot, the mechanical rabbit ‘Too Easy’, symbolising how effortlessly teachers and students can embrace digital skills.

During the event, EdCity announced its full backing of the Education Bureau’s digital education strategy and revealed plans to host Hong Kong’s inaugural Digital Education Week in July 2025, further propelling the growth of digital education in the city. EdCity also signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four strategic partners: The Education University of Hong Kong, Cyberport, the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, and the Smart City Consortium. These partnerships aim to foster cross-sector collaboration, build an ‘AI Education Ecosystem’, and pave the way for a new era of Tech-Enabled Education by integrating cutting-edge technology and nurturing innovative talent.

July Spotlight: Digital Education Week

Dr Tenny Lam Fung, Executive Director of EdCity, shared during the ceremony that EdCity will roll out several innovative projects this year. In July, EdCity will join forces with the government to launch the first-ever Digital Education Week, aligning with the education sector’s flagship event—the 15th Learning & Teaching Expo (LTE). Additionally, EdCity, in collaboration with the Education Bureau, the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR), and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, will host the International Summit on the Use of AI in Learning and Teaching Languages and Other Subjects & Post-Summit Workshop Series (AiinLT), followed by a series of workshops.

 

 

EdCity 25th Anniversary Launching Ceremony

Dr Tenny Lam Fung, Executive Director of Hong Kong Education City, shared the exciting new projects that EdCity has in store for the future.

The 15th Learning & Teaching Expo will centre on the theme ‘Education: A Shared Future for All’ bringing together government officials, education experts, and industry leaders from around the globe to showcase the latest in educational technology and solutions. The event will feature an interactive English teaching zone, an immersive future classroom experience, and a platform for EdTech startups to connect and collaborate, driving professional exchange and innovation.

The International Summit on the Use of AI in Learning and Teaching Languages and Other Subjects & Post-Summit Workshop Series (AiinLT) will gather global experts to share insights on applying AI across various disciplines. Through keynote speeches, hands-on workshops, and tech demonstrations, the event aims to equip educators with the tools to integrate AI into their teaching and enhance learning outcomes.

Driving Digital Education in Schools Through Collaboration

At the ceremony, EdCity signed MoUs with The Education University of Hong Kong, Cyberport, the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, and the Smart City Consortium to jointly advance the use and development of educational technology (EdTech) and artificial intelligence (AI).

EdCity and The Education University of Hong Kong Join Forces. As Hong Kong’s leading teacher education institution, The Education University of Hong Kong is integrating AI and computational thinking (CT) into its curriculum to create personalised learning experiences for students and strengthen pre-service teachers’ ability to apply AI in lesson planning and teaching. EdCity will provide internships and professional training for the university’s undergraduates, helping them develop the skills needed for the future of education.

EdCity and Cyberport Team Up. EdCity and Cyberport join forces to bridge EdTech startups with primary and secondary schools across Hong Kong, promoting the integration of AI and computational thinking into curricula and advancing STEAM education.

EdCity and the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers Collaborate.
With a network spanning over 2,000 schools and 64,000 members, the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers (HKFEW) is a powerhouse in the education sector. This partnership will provide professional development opportunities for educators across Hong Kong, fostering knowledge sharing and enhancing their ability to integrate AI into teaching practices.

EdCity and the Smart City Consortium Partner Up. The Smart City Consortium will co-organise the Learning & Teaching Expo with EdCity, showcasing the latest global innovations in educational technology and teaching resources. The event will explore key trends in education and promote the development of smart, globally connected education in Hong Kong through knowledge exchange and collaborative projects.
