With summer vacation approaching, how can parents encourage their children to make the most of their break and discover their reading interests? The 33rd "Hong Kong Book Fair," organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, will be held from July 19 to 25 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Hong Kong Education City has compiled key information about the 2023 Book Fair to encourage parents to take their children along and explore the world of books together!
Annual Theme: "Reading the World from Hong Kong: Joyful Reading for Children and Youth"
The theme for Book Fair 2023, "Reading the World from Hong Kong: Joyful Reading for Children and Youth," aims to promote literary works centered on children and young adults, helping kids develop essential soft skills through reading. This year, the fair features nine recommended authors of children's and young adult literature, including A-Nong, Ho Tsz, Quenby Fung, Mimi Zhou, Wang Feng Liang , Ya Wei, Suen Wai Ling, Ming Zhu Pan, and Jin Ying Pan, encouraging children to immerse themselves in their story worlds. The fair will also host an International Cultural and Arts Gallery, showcasing artistic works from around the world to provide attendees with a fresh artistic experience.
During the fair, Hong Kong Education City will hold the 20th Top Ten Book Picks Award Ceremony and Reading Habit Seminar, announcing the favorite books of primary and secondary students, recommended readings by teachers, and the most beloved authors of the year. Members of the advisory panel will analyze the reading habits of students across Hong Kong, assisting school librarians in formulating reading promotion strategies for their schools.
Reading Strategies for Little Bookworms
Visiting the book fair as a family is a great opportunity to foster a love of reading in children. This year, the fair will continue to feature a Children's Zone, showcasing various children's books and learning aids for families. The Children's Zone will also host multiple parent-child talks and activities, allowing parents to accompany their little bookworms in exploring and selecting their favorite books. The world of children's literature is vibrant and fun, so parents are encouraged to seize this opportunity at the book fair to kickstart their children's reading journey!
