Spatial data is essential for creating a smart city for the future. It facilitates urban, healthcare, and transportation planning by enabling a multi-faceted understanding of the city. In December 2022, the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI) website was launched, aiming to promote the education and utilisation of spatial data. EdCity has been supporting students to become active contributors to addressing real-world challenges with the use and analysis of spatial data.
The recent ‘CSDI Awards 2024 – Present Spatial Date, Map our Future’, held by Geospatial Lab under the Development Bureau, attracted over 160 teams of primary and secondary school students. The culminating awards ceremony, held on 20 July, saw Ms Michelle Lee, Head of Business and Communications, serve as a judge for the Form 4 to Form 6 category. She praised the students for their keen observations and comprehensive research in addressing pressing issues such as sustainable development, climate change, housing planning, and sports development, as they demonstrated their palpable love for their city. She also expressed her excitement about the new generation’s potential to contribute to creating a more liveable city in the future.
Ms Michelle Lee, Mr Su Yau On, Albert, MH, JP, Chief Executive of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Project Director of Geospatial Lab (2nd row, 3rd from left) and Professor Paulina Wong, Head of Science Unit at Lingnan University presented awards to the winning students at the CSDI Awards 2024 ceremony.
The competition encouraged students to leverage spatial data and unleash their creativity to improve the future environment of the city.
